History of Abbott’s Magic
The history of Abbott’s Magic is a story of magicians, magic conventions, and the town of Colon, Michigan, which is now known as the “Magic Capital of the World”:
- Blackstone Magic Company
In 1927, Australian-born magician Percy Abbott and Harry Blackstone Sr. co-founded the Blackstone Magic Company in Colon, Michigan.
- Abbott Magic Company
In 1934, Abbott reopened the business as the Abbott Magic Company with Recil Bordner as his new partner.
- Abbott Magic Get-Together
To boost sales, Abbott and Bordner held an open house, which became the Abbott Magic Get-Together, an annual tradition that continues today.
- Magic Capital of the World
Magician Lester “Marvelo” Lake, who worked with Abbott’s Magic from 1931 to 1934, is credited with coining the term “Magic Capital of the World” after attending one of the Abbott Magic Get-Togethers. In 1991, U.S. Senator Carl Levin officially declared Colon the “Magic Capital of the World” on the floor of the U.S. Senate.
- Fisher-Abbott Magic Company
In 2003, Percy Abbott’s children, Marilyn, Linda, and Sydney, along with Rick Fisher, started the Fisher-Abbott Magic Company (FAB Magic) in Colon.
