UF Grant Fantastic Spikes Thru Balloon – MAK Magic
Originally Marketed by U.F. Grant in the Late 1950s and Later Produced by MAK Magic.
The magic trick UF Grant Fantastic Spikes Thru Balloon is a stage illusion where the performer pushes two solid spikes through a balloon inside a cylinder, and the balloon remains unpopped.
The Spikes Thru Ballooon effect:
- The magician displays an empty cylinder and two solid spikes to the audience.
- A balloon is inflated and inserted into the cylinder, with the ends of the balloon protruding from either side.
- The magician thrusts the spikes completely through the cylinder, visibly penetrating the balloon.
- After removing the spikes, the balloon is taken out of the cylinder and shown to be undamaged. In some variations, the balloon is later popped to show it is a regular balloon.
The creators and manufacturers:
- Bob Gurtler (also known as Andre Kole): Invented the “Spikes Thru Balloon” trick in 1956.
- U.F. Grant: A prolific magician and inventor, Grant started marketing the trick in 1958. After his death, his magic company was taken over by his daughter, Mary Ann King, who renamed it MAK Magic.
- MAK Magic: The company continued to manufacture and sell many of U.F. Grant’s classic effects, including the Spikes Thru Balloon.
Used vintage prop, shows imperfections from age and performance use. Includes instructions and real nails for the balloon penetratrion.
