T-20 Tenyo Magic Cubio
Condition: Used, open box
A string goes through a cube. The cube falls down along the string. If you say ‘Stop’, it instantly stops falling. If you say ‘Fall down,’ it begins to fall down.” Includes instructions and Cubio effect in original box. Discontinued by Tenyo.
The Tenyo Magic Cubio (T-20) is a classic “defiance of gravity” magic trick first released by Tenyo in approximately 1960. It remains a highly sought-after collectible due to its status as the smallest prop ever produced by the company.
Key Features & History
- Effect: A small white cube with colored spots is threaded onto a string. When held vertically, the cube falls freely, but it instantly stops mid-air at the magician’s command. Spectators are typically unable to replicate the effect.
- Design: The prop consists of a white plastic cube with six indented colored spots (Black, Red, and Yellow) and a brown string with silver dumbbell stoppers at each end.
- Historical Context:
- Original (T-20): Released circa 1960 and discontinued.
- Re-edition (T-111): A newer version titled “Super Cubio” was released in 1982 with identical functionality but updated aesthetics.
- Variations: The concept was later adapted for promotional items, including a Pokémon version and a 1999 McDonald’s Japan “Big Mac Cubio”.
