David Regal’s Arrival & The Gold Standard Magic Effects

Discover the David Regal effect, ARRIVAL? For one, it was the closing effect of my recent close-up act at the Magic Castle.

The magician displays a small cloth package secured with a silver cord. The bundle is unwrapped – inside is a deck of cards. A card is selected, signed if desired, and returned to the deck. The handkerchief is slowly folded in quarters and the deck waved over it. The spectator looks through the deck – the selected card is gone. The magician unfolds the handkerchief. There in the handkerchief’s center is the selected card.

As astonishing as this is, it gets better when two spectators are involved and each selects a card. The first card is found inside the folded handkerchief. The second? It is “made invisible” and given to the second spectator to hold. He tosses it into the air as the magician uses the handkerchief like a net to “catch” the invisible card.

Without cover, the card “turns visible” and appears on the handkerchief. It can immediately be handed to the spectator.

Discover the David Regal effect, The Gold Standard? It is an 18k gold-plated tie tack or lapel pin that does something special with great economy: a card is returned to the deck, and an instant later it is seen impaled on your tie tack. You can pull on the card, and spin it on the post. Best of all, when you remove the card from the tie tack there is a hole in the card.

The card can be signed. The effect can be performed at any time in your act, with a deck in play. And it doesn’t have to be a playing card. The Gold Standard can just as easily cause a signed bill to become impaled, or a business card – imagine handing out your card only to discover it pierced by your tie tack. When you remove the card there’s a hole running through it, and you give that potential customer your business information with a permanent reminder of the effect he just witnessed.
