Description and Effect

Appearance: This piece is a richly hand-decorated wooden cabinet, described as a “miniature illusion cabinet,” with vibrant lacquer and gilt accents. Earlier versions were made by Thayer Magic, which was acquired by Carl Owen, who continued the tradition of excellence.

Vanish or production: The Pagoda features a sliding front door that can be used to perform vanish or production effects. The magician can show the cabinet seemingly empty and then make silks, flowers, or another item appear inside. Conversely, an object placed inside can be made to vanish.

Construction: The apparatus is known for classic Owen build quality, combining precision craftsmanship with elegant design. A collector’s item, it exemplifies the company’s reputation for high-quality magical woodcraft. 

Legacy and history

Thayer inspiration: The Owen Pagoda Mystery was inspired by the Thayer Magic Company’s 1936 “Wu-Ling Pagoda Mystery” and was subsequently re-branded by Owen Magic Supreme.

Discontinued and collectible: Owen Magic Supreme ceased operations in recent years, making its vintage items highly sought after by collectors. The Pagoda is no longer manufactured but can be found occasionally on collector sites. A variant was also created by master craftsman Brian Cook, who made a limited run of 12 pieces with a box-office style routine.
