Abbott’s Magic Box of Pam
Box of Pam. Colon: Abbott’s Magic Mfg., ca. 1990. A box is disassembled and both hinged sides are shown, yet upon reassembly, a large production is made from within. Invented by Gerald Taylor of Australia. 12 ½ x 7 ½ x 7 ¼”.
When the Box of Pam formed into a box like shape it is hinged to open all the way flat giving an unobstructed view of the interior. The interior is a different color to contrast the exterior which firmly sets in the minds of spectators they have clearly seen both sides. After showing in this fashion, it is formed back into the box shape and a load of production items (not included) is made.
Beautiful Abbott’s Magic prop made wood with lacquered and striking designs.
Used prop in collectible condition.
Background
Overview and Effect
- The Routine: The magician disassembles the box, showing all sides and both hinged interior faces to prove it is empty. Once reassembled, a “large production” of items (such as silks, flowers, or other props) is pulled from the inside.
- Design and Build: Modern versions were often painted in the striking “Okito style” by renowned magic artist Norm Nielsen. It is typically made of wood with lacquered designs and measures approximately 12.5 x 7.5 x 7.25 inches.
- Variation: A related item known as the Screen of Pam uses a similar hinged design but lacks a top and bottom, allowing it to open completely flat for an unobstructed view before being formed into a box for the production.
Key Specifications

Condition Disclosure for Rare & Vintage Collectible Magic Apparatus
PHOTOS
Please review all listing photos carefully, as they are an important part of the item description. The photos are intended to show the overall visual condition of the apparatus, including possible imperfections, paint quality, decals if applicable, shelf wear, performance wear, and age-related characteristics.
LABELS
MagicTrickCollection.com does not rely on broad condition labels such as “good,” “very good,” “excellent,” or “mint” for vintage and antique magic effects. These terms can be subjective and may mean different things to different collectors. Instead, we believe clear photos from multiple angles provide the most accurate way to evaluate condition without revealing the working secrets of the effect.
OLD VERSUS NEW
Items listed under Rare & Vintage Collectible Magic may range from 10 to 100 years old or more. These are not new magic props. They may show signs of age, handling, storage, repairs, fragility, paint loss, decal wear, or prior performance use.
If your intent is to perform with the item, please understand that some vintage apparatus may require careful handling, adjustment, and practice. This disclosure is provided to help ensure buyers understand they are purchasing a vintage collectible magic item with age, history, and character—not a newly manufactured prop.
