• NYC Opener: A fast-paced, multi-phase card routine that acts as the perfect set opener.
  • • The Effect: A prediction is shown to three out of four spectators, keeping the final spectator in the dark. A card is freely touched and reversed in the deck. When spread, the reversed card perfectly matches the prediction.
    • The Kicker: The card is slid back into the deck. The spectator counts the cards only to find there are now 51—the chosen card has completely vanished from the deck and instantly reappeared inside the empty card box.
    • Method: This relies on two standard gaff cards included in the package, meaning the cards do almost all the heavy lifting. Elsdon teaches both palming and no-palm handlings. 

• Strange Oblique: A direct, hilarious mentalism routine using a “Which Hand” / “Liar and Truth-teller” plot.
  • • The Effect: One spectator is designated as the “liar” while the rest must tell the truth. Alternatively, it can be played by handing a large coin to one person and smaller coins to the others, where the large-coin holder is the only truth-teller.
    • The Presentation: The magician leaves the room while coins are distributed. Upon returning, the magician asks a series of absurd, nonsensical questions (e.g., “Would you eat a free taco if a stranger gave it to you?”). By analyzing their responses, you can flawlessly identify the liar.
    • Method: This is completely impromptu and utilizes an expanded take on Elsdon’s classic Tequila Hustler principle. It requires no electronics, no secret stooges, and no pre-show work.

  • The Effect: A multi-phase card routine where you “gift” a spectator the temporary ability to do magic.
  • The Performance: Without any pre-show, the spectator successfully acts as the magician. Across three increasingly impossible phases, she correctly divines selected cards from other people, identifies a thought-of card, and cleanly executes an incredible “Any Card At Any Number” (ACAAN) climax.
