Background

The UF Grant Nite Club Dove Vanish is a classic stage magic illusion where a magician places live doves (or other small animals) into a box, then disassembles the box piece by piece to show the animals have vanished. This trick makes for a large, visual display on stage and has been produced by several manufacturers over the years, including Mak Magic.

Product Details and Operation

The illusion is a well-known piece of magic apparatus, originally designed by U.F. Grant, and is intended for a full stage performance due to its size and visual impact.

Effect: The magician places one or two live doves into a decorated box. The box is then completely dismantled, piece by piece, and the individual pieces shown to the audience, demonstrating that the birds have disappeared without a trace. The base on which the box rests can often also be taken apart or folded flat.
Construction: The apparatus is typically made of painted plywood. Vintage, original props from the mid-20th century are considered collector’s items.
Availability: The original Mak Magic version is no longer produced, as the company closed down. However, other manufacturers like Mr. Magic and Sumag have produced their own versions, which are available through various magic retailers.
