The Jimmy King Captain Kidd Treasure Chest is not normally considered one of the MAK Magic era “holy grail” items to acquire (perhaps it should be), however if you are fortunate enough to have this within your collection, you’ll most likely have one of the very few made or still existing. Out of all the Grant/MAK catalogs, bulletins, and supplemental catalog publications, I’ve only seen it listed for sale as an one-off item, not part of main-stream series of magic apparatus.

• Manufacturer: MAK Magic.
• Effect: A classic production effect suitable for children’s shows or themed magic, where items appear inside a seemingly empty chest.
• Design: Typically styled as a pirate’s treasure chest.

Product Details

• Creator: Jimmy King, who married Gen Grant’s daughter in 1964 and joined the family magic business.
• Manufacturer: The item was produced by the company which was initially “Grant magic” and later renamed to MAK Magic after King took over.

Condition

For its age and scarcity, this prop seems to have been kept up well. The pictures are an important part of this condition description and reflect 360 degree views of the tube and all but the secret side of the treasure chest. There are some imperfections noticeable, specifically on the chest one edge on the hinged end of the chest shows wood cracking.
